The Queen of Sod is dead… but the lawn’s still growing—and so is she.

While researching a book on Hollywood urban legends, author Mike Campbell lands an interview with Lloyd Cocoa, the oddball son of '60s starlet Esther Cocoa—better known as The Queen of Sod for her wildly popular lawn commercials. But what starts as a quirky footnote in pop culture history turns chilling when Mike begins to suspect Esther never died… and the grass may still be growing.

The Queen of Sod, a new surreal horror short film from Director Matthew Kollar, is coming soon to Scream Box and their long running acclaimed anthology, Bloody Bites.

Lawn and Garden Horror, a sub-genre that hasn't quite taken root yet, but I think this is just the beginning for a brave new style that has so much to say. Look out Found Footage!  The Queen of Sod came primarily from talking about my love for Cult Horror Director, Herk Harvey. Herk directed the early horror masterpiece "Carnival of Souls", almost unbelievably though, that's his only Feature Film credit. The rest of his credits are, yes, PSA's. PSA's like "Shake Hands With Danger", which you should absolutely look up. Myself and Producer Matt Maguire thought it would be really fun to make a sort of homage to the great director by mixing PSA's and surrealist-horror together. I mean someone had to do it, right? RIGHT?! Mix that with some incredible practical effects work by the great Monique Paredes, and an ominous and super funny performance  by Leprechaun 3's Marcelo Tubert, and The Queen rose from her muddy grave.  - Director, Matthew Kollar
